Taxonomy
Muntiacus leilaoensis was named by Dong et al. (2004). Its type specimen is PDYV1762, an other (A nearly complete left antler with nearly complete pedicle and a small part of frontal), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Leilao, which is in a Baodean alluvial fan claystone in the Xiaohe Formation of China.
