Heptacodon gibbiceps
Taxonomy
Heptacodon gibbiceps was named by Marsh (1894). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Hermosa (Oligocene), which is in a Whitneyan terrestrial horizon in the Brule Formation of South Dakota.
It was recombined as Anthracotherium gibbiceps by Matthew (1899), Hay (1902); it was recombined as Octacodon gibbiceps by Troxell (1921) and Hay (1930).
