Taxonomy
Tanupolama blancoensis was named by Meade (1945) [also said to be 1944]. Its type locality is Meade's Quarry 11, which is in a Blancan terrestrial horizon in the Blanco Formation of Texas.
It was synonymized subjectively with Hemiauchenia macrocephala by Dalquest (1992); it was recombined as Hemiauchenia blancoensis by Webb (1974), Breyer (1977), Kurten and Anderson (1980), Schultz (1990), Kelly (1994), Honey et al. (1998), Jimenez-Hidalgo and Carranza-Castaneda (2010).
