Taxonomy
Gypsonictops hypoconus was named by Simpson (1927). Its type specimen is YPM 13662, a tooth (upper molar), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Peterson's Quarry, which is in a Lancian terrestrial horizon in the Lance Formation of Wyoming. It is the type species of Gypsonictops.
