Taxonomy
Palaeolama aequatorialis was named by Hoffstetter (1952). Its type specimen is EPN V. 3020, a mandible, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is La Carolina, which is in a Pleistocene estuary/bay sandstone/tar in Ecuador. It is the type species of Palaeolama (Astylolama).
It was recombined as Palaeolama (Astylolama) aequatorialis by Churcher (1965).
