Taxonomy
Triplophyllites (Triplophyllites) californicus was named by Tischler (1956). Its type specimen is UCMP 14749 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is UCMP loc. A-9456, Rest Spring Gulch, Cottonwood Range, which is in an Osagean marine limestone/shale in the Leaning Rock Formation of California.
It was recombined as Zaphrentoides (Amplexizaphrentis) californicus by Easton (1975).
