Taxonomy
Dissacus saurognathus was named by Wortman (1897) [in Matthew]. Its type specimen is Amer. Mus. No. 2454, a mandible (complete lower jaw), and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Ancalagon saurognathus by Van Valen (1978); it was recombined as Ankalagon saurognathus by Van Valen (1980), Rose and O'Leary (1995), O'Leary et al. (2000).
