B. S. Ferrero et al. 2022 | Medium-sized Toxodontidae similar to Toxodon platensis and Gyrinodon quassus. Skull roughly triangular with short nasal bones, not reaching the border of incisors, similar to T. platensis. Premaxilla less expanded laterally than in T. platensis and similar to Paratrigodon euguii and Hoffstetterius imperator. Mandibular horizontal ramus with ventral extension as in G. quassus, H. imperator, Pericotoxodon platignathus, and Dinotoxodon paranensis. Symphysis without median labial keel. Symphysis and incisors procumbent well below the alveolar level of the cheek tooth series as in Mixotoxodon larensis and T. platensis. Absence of upper canine as in T. platensis, H. imperator, and P. euguii. P3–P4 with smooth postero-lingual groove as in Trigodon gaudryi. Upper premolars morphometrically similar to H. imperator and T. gaudryi, but lower molars similar to T. platensis and D. paranensis. Autapomorphies: nasals more compressed laterally than in other toxodontids, somewhat convex in transversal and longitudinal planes. Incisive foramina well-defined, deep and rounded, medial palatine process of premaxilla forming a narrow edge. |
