Messelopython freyi
Taxonomy
Messelopython freyi was named by Zaher and Smith (2020). Its type specimen is SMNK-PAL 461, a partial skeleton (nearly complete skeleton with partial skull), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Grube Messel Pit (Senckenberg SMF collection), which is in a MP 11 crater lake claystone in the Messel Formation of Germany. It is the type species of Messelopython.
