Taxonomy
Acer momijiyamense was named by Takahashi and Suzuki (1988). It is not extant. Its type specimen is Department of Biology, Kanazawa University, No. 22002, a wood. Its type locality is Momijiyama, which is in an Oligocene terrestrial horizon in the Poronai Formation of Japan.
