Taxonomy
Calomys (Bensonomys) gidleyi was named by Baskin (1978). Its type specimen is WC no. 212, a tooth (m1), and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is White Cone, which is in a Hemphillian terrestrial horizon in the Bidahochi Formation of Arizona.
It was recombined as Bensonomys gidleyi by Martin et al. (2002).
