Taxonomy
Tivela vaquerosensis was named by Wiedey (1929). Its type specimen is LSJU 520 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is LSJU loc. 200, Los Vaqueros Valley, which is in a Miocene coastal horizon in the Vaqueros Formation of California.
