Pharisatichthys aquensis

Taxonomy
Pharisatichthys aquensis was named by Gaudant and Carnevale (2015). Its type specimen is MNHN.F.AIX231, a partial skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Chemin du Pin, which is in a Chattian marine horizon in the Aix-en-Provence Formation of France. It is the type species of Pharisatichthys.

Supraoccipital en forme de lame allongée. Prémaxillaire à processus ascendant très long. Grand lacrymal à bord latéral lisse et préopercule à contour postéro-ventral entier. colonne vertébrale composée de 24 vertèbres, dont 14 postab- dominales. Squelette caudal axial comportant cinq hypuraux autogènes. Nageoire caudale fourchue. Nageoire dorsale con- tinue ; 9 épines et 9-10 rayons. Formule prédorsale 0+0/0+2/1/. Nageoire anale comportant 3 épines et 6 (?)-7 rayons. corps couvert d’écailles cycloïdes.
