Pseudeutatus was named by Ameghino (1902). Its type is Pseudeutatus clypeus.

It was assigned to Dasypidae by Ameghino (1902); to Dasypodidae by Simpson (1948) and Carroll (1988); and to Eutatini by McKenna and Bell (1997).
