Taxonomy
Sangiorgiosaurus kuhnschnyderi was named by Brinkmann (1998). Its type specimen is PIMUZ T1324 and is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Mixosaurus kuhnschnyderi by Maisch and Matzke (2000), McGowan and Motani (2003), Maisch (2010), Ji et al. (2016); it was recombined as Mixosaurus kuhnschneyderi by Moon (2019).
