Dissacusium was named by Chow et al. (1977). Its type is Dissacus shanghoensis.
It was assigned to Mesonychinae by Zhou et al. (1995); and to Mesonychidae by Chow et al. (1977), Carroll (1988), McKenna and Bell (1997), Gingerich (1998).
