Ozotoceros was named by Ameghino (1891). It is extant.
It was synonymized subjectively with Blastoceros by Hershkovitz (1982).
It was assigned to Odocoileini by Grubb (2000); to Cervidae by Ameghino (1891), Carroll (1988), Salles et al. (2006); and to Odocoileinae by Pocock (1923), Agnarsson and May-Collado (2008).
