Taxonomy

Hypertragulus was named by Cope (1874).

It was assigned to Oreodontidae by Cope (1891); to Leptotragulinae by Hay (1902); to Hypertragulinae by Matthew (1908), Scott (1940), Gazin (1955); and to Hypertragulidae by Cope (1873), Cook (1934), Johnson (1966), Ferrusquia-Villafranca (1969), Carroll (1988), Vislobokova (1998), Vislobokova (2001), Lofgren et al. (2020).

H. calcaratus (syn. H. tricostatus), H. chadronensis, H. crawfordensis, H. dakotensis, H. heikeni, H. hesperius, H. minor, H. minutus, H. planiceps, H. quadratus, H. sequens

Synonyms

Allomeryx was named by Sinclair (1905). Its type is Allomeryx planiceps.

It was synonymized subjectively with Nanotragulus by Webb (1998); it was synonymized subjectively with Hypertragulus by Frick (1937), Whistler and Lander (2003).

It was assigned to Hypertragulidae by Merriam and Sinclair (1907).
