Taxonomy
Auchenia weddelli was named by Gervais (1855). It is the type species of Palaeolama.
It was recombined as Palaeolama (Palaeolama) weddellii by Churcher (1965); it was misspelled as Palaeolama weddeli by Boule and Thevenin (1920); it was recombined as Palaeolama weddelli by Ameghino (1902), Honey et al. (1998).
