It was assigned to Ruminantia by Owen (1848); to Anthracotheriidae by Carroll (1988), McKenna and Bell (1997); to Hippopotamoidea by Orliac et al. (2010); and to Bothriodontinae by Boisserie et al. (2005), Boisserie et al. (2010).
