Taxonomy
Bothriogenys was named by Schmidt (1913). It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type is Brachyodus fraasi.
It was assigned to Ruminantiamorpha by Spaulding et al. (2009); to Hippopotamoidea by Orliac et al. (2010); to Anthracotheriidae by Carroll (1988), McKenna and Bell (1997), Holroyd et al. (2010); and to Bothriodontinae by Boisserie et al. (2010), Ducrocq et al. (2015), Scherler et al. (2019).
It was assigned to Ruminantiamorpha by Spaulding et al. (2009); to Hippopotamoidea by Orliac et al. (2010); to Anthracotheriidae by Carroll (1988), McKenna and Bell (1997), Holroyd et al. (2010); and to Bothriodontinae by Boisserie et al. (2010), Ducrocq et al. (2015), Scherler et al. (2019).
