Perchoerus was named by Leidy (1869). It is not extant.

It was assigned to Hyotheriinae by Hay (1902); to Tayassuinae by McKenna and Bell (1997), Boisserie et al. (2005); to Suinamorpha by Spaulding et al. (2009); and to Tayassuidae by Leidy (1869), Scott (1940), Carroll (1988), Wright (1998), Prothero (2009), Albright et al. (2019), Prothero (2021).

Synonyms

Chaenohyus was named by Cope (1879).

It was synonymized subjectively with Thinohyus by Sinclair (1905); it was considered a nomen dubium by Wright (1998); it was synonymized subjectively with Perchoerus by Cope and Matthew (1915), Pearson (1923), Prothero (2009), Prothero (2021).

It was assigned to Hyotheriinae by Hay (1902); to Tayassuidae by Cope (1879), Carroll (1988); and to Tayassuinae by McKenna and Bell (1997).
Bothrolabis was named by Cope (1888).

It was reranked as Thinohyus (Bothrolabis) by Sinclair (1905), Peterson (1906); it was synonymized subjectively with Perchoerus by Cope and Matthew (1915), Pearson (1923), Hay (1930), Prothero (2009), Prothero (2021).

It was assigned to Dicotylinae by Cope (1888); to Hyotheriinae by Hay (1902); and to Thinohyus by Sinclair (1905), Peterson (1906).

Prothero 2009	Smaller peccaries (Ml-3 length = 30-47 mm) with well-developed sagittal crests, and relatively brachycephalic, gracile skulls with less robust occiput and zygomatic arches compared to Thinohyus; no diastemata between canines and first premolars; M3 relatively short anteroposteriorly compared to M3 of Thinohyus due to relatively small posterior cingulum and lack of a postero-intemal heel.
