Taxonomy
Coscinocercus marcalaini was named by Cabrera (1939). Its type specimen is MLP 37-III-7-3, a maxilla (Parle de maxilar izquierdo con los tres úllimos dientes, tubo caudalligeramenle incomplelo cerca del ápice, partes de los cuatro anillos caudales, y fragmentos ), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Robilotte field - SE of Epecuén lagoon & E of Laguna de Epecuén, which is in a Huayquerian terrestrial siltstone/siltstone in the Epecuén Formation of Argentina.
