Lessnessina was named by Hooker (1979). It is not extant. Its type is Lessnessina packmani.
It was assigned to Anisonchinae by Hooker (1979); and to Hyopsodontidae by Carroll (1988), Zack et al. (2005) and Williamson and Weil (2011).
