Meryceros (Submeryceros) was named by Frick (1937) [named as subgenus of Meryceros by Frick 1937; earliest use as genus I know of; suggested to be synonymous with Merycodus by Janis and Manning 1998b]. Its type is Meryceros (Submeryceros) crucianus.
It was reranked as Submeryceros by Storer (1975), Voorhies (1990), Janis and Manning (1998); it was synonymized subjectively with Merycodus by Beatty and Martin (2009).
It was assigned to Meryceros by Frick (1937); and to Antilocapridae by Storer (1975), Voorhies (1990), Janis and Manning (1998).
It was reranked as Submeryceros by Storer (1975), Voorhies (1990), Janis and Manning (1998); it was synonymized subjectively with Merycodus by Beatty and Martin (2009).
