Taxonomy
Taxymys was named by Marsh (1872). Its type is Taxymys lucaris.

It was replaced with Tachymys by Marsh (1873); it was synonymized subjectively with Tillomys by Troxell (1923).

It was assigned to Ischyromyidae by Hay (1902); and to Sciuravidae by Marsh (1872), McGrew et al. (1959), West (1973), Gazin (1976), Korth (1984), McKenna and Bell (1997).
