Taxonomy
Trochus pupillus was named by Gould (1849). It is extant. Its type specimen is USNM 5609, a shell.

It was recombined as Margarita pupilla by Ashley (1895); it was recombined as Margarites pupillus by Clark (1931); it was recombined as Pupillaria pupilla by Hendy (2021).
