Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
P. E. Morse et al. 2019Differs from all other omomyiforms except ‘Archicebus’ in occasionally retaining large alveoli for C1, P1, and P2, in lacking a sagittal crest, in having a relatively small orbital diameter for skull length, and in having a deep, non-articular sulcus along the medial tibiotalar facet, below the medial rim of the talus. Further differs from all other omomyiforms except ‘Archicebus,’ Tetonius, and Bownomomys, gen. nov., in expressing only moderate calcaneal elongation (as opposed to increased elongation in other omomyiforms). Further differs from all other omomyiforms except ‘Archicebus,’ Bownomomys, and Steinius in having a large C1 and in variably retaining the P1. When present, P1 may have a relatively small (<5% M1 crown area) alveolus that is laterally displaced from the tooth row, as is variably the case in Bownomomys, or alternatively a relatively large (>5% M1 crown area) alveolus in line with other teeth, as in Steinius. Further differs from Bownomomys in lacking a buccal cingulid and possessing a weak (rather than pronounced) lingual cingulid on the crown of C1, having narrower P3-M3, with weakly developed buccal cingulids on molars, simpler P3-4 morphology with P4 lacking a distinct paraconid, lack of transverse cristae that join the bases of the paracone and protocone on P3-4, absence of enamel crenulation, and lacking a Nannopithex fold on upper molars. Further differs from Bownomomys, but resembles Steinius, in lacking complete lingual cingula on upper molars. Further differs from Steinius in having less enlarged P3-4 with a lower P4 metaconid that is positioned more distal relative to the protoconid, and in having narrower P3-M3.
