Taxonomy
Carpolestes was named by Simpson (1928). It is not extant. Its type is Carpolestes nigridens. It was considered monophyletic by Beard and Wang (1995).
It was synonymized subjectively with Carpodaptes by Szalay and Delson (1979).
It was assigned to Tarsiidae by Simpson (1928); to Carpolestidae by Simpson (1937), Simpson (1940), Gingerich (1980), Gingerich (1987), Gunnell (1989), Van Valen (1994), McKenna and Bell (1997) and Bloch and Gingerich (1998); and to Carpolestinae by Beard and Wang (1995) and Beard et al. (2016).
