Taxonomy
Carpolestidae was named by Simpson (1935). It is not extant. Its type is Carpolestinae. It was considered monophyletic by Beard (1993).

It was assigned to Primates by Simpson (1936), Simpson (1937) and Simpson (1940); to Plesiadapiformes by Beard (1993) and Thewissen et al. (2001); and to Plesiadapoidea by Carroll (1988), Gunnell (1989), Bloch et al. (2007) and Silcox et al. (2010).
