Taxonomy

Paranyctoides was named by Fox (1979). It is not extant. Its type is Paranyctoides sternbergi.

It was assigned to Erinaceomorpha by Fox (1979), McKenna and Bell (1997); to Nyctitheriidae by Fox (1984), Lillegraven and McKenna (1986), Kielan-Jaworowska et al. (2004); to Eutheria by Archibald and Averianov (2005), Wible et al. (2007), Averianov and Archibald (2013); and to Eutheria by Montellano et al. (2013).
