Taxonomy

Gypsonictops was named by Simpson (1927). Its type is Gypsonictops hypoconus. It is the type genus of Gypsonictopidae.

It was assigned to Leptictidae by Simpson (1927), Simpson (1927); to Leptictinae by Hay (1930); to Erinaceoidea by Sloan and Van Valen (1965); to Gypsonictopinae by Van Valen (1967); to Leptictoidea by Kielan-Jaworowska et al. (1979); to Insectivora by Simpson (1929), Wood and Ormsbee (1954), Lillegraven and McKenna (1986); to Gypsonictopsidae by Kielan-Jaworowska et al. (2004); to Gypsonictopidae by McKenna and Bell (1997), Wible et al. (2007); and to Leptictida by Silcox et al. (2010).

Synonyms

Euangelistes was named by Simpson (1929). Its type is Euangelistes petersoni.

It was synonymized subjectively with Gypsonictops by Van Valen (1967), Clemens (1973), Archibald (1982).

It was assigned to Pediomyinae by Simpson (1929); and to Insectivora by Wood and Ormsbee (1954).
