Taxonomy
Mitra uvasana was named by Dickerson (1915). Its type specimen is CAS 358, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is CAS loc. 245, Grapevine Canyon, which is in an Eocene marginal marine sandstone/shale in the Tejon Formation of California.
