Taxonomy

Pediomys was named by Marsh (1889). Its type is Pediomys elegans. It is the type genus of Pediomyinae.

It was assigned to Mammalia by Marsh (1889); to Cimolestidae by Hay (1902); to Pediomyinae by Hay (1930); to Pediomyinae by Simpson (1927), Simpson (1927), Simpson (1929), Wood and Ormsbee (1954); to Didelphidae by Sloan and Van Valen (1965); to Pediomyidae by Clemens (1979), Lillegraven and McKenna (1986), McKenna and Bell (1997), Kielan-Jaworowska et al. (2004), Goin et al. (2006), Davis (2007); to Metatheria by Ladaveze and Muizon (2010); and to Pediomyidae by Williamson et al. (2012).

Synconodon was named by Osborn (1898). Its type is Synconodon sexicuspis.

It was synonymized subjectively with Pediomys by Clemens (1966), Sahni (1972), Montellano (1992).

It was assigned to Amblypoda by Hay (1902); and to Didelphinae by Hay (1930).
