Taxonomy
Astroconodon was named by Patterson (1951). It is not extant. Its type is Astroconodon denisoni.
It was assigned to Triconodontinae by Patterson (1956); to Triconodontidae by Patterson (1951), Jenkins and Crompton (1979), Rasmussen and Callison (1981), Carroll (1988), Cifelli et al. (1998), Gao et al. (2010); and to Alticonodontinae by Kielan-Jaworowska et al. (2004), Gaetano and Rougier (2011).
