Elysastraea parvula was named by Ogilvie Gordon (1927). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Seura Piciulei (Buchenstein Fm.), which is in an Illyrian/Fassanian marine horizon in the Buchenstein Formation of Italy.
