Taxonomy
Plesiocyon typicus was named by Schlosser (1888). Its type specimen is UP PC46, a mandible, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Pech Crabet, which is in a MP 23 terrestrial phosphorite in France.
It was recombined as Cynodon typicus by Teilhard (1915); it was recombined as Amphicynodon typicus by Cirot and de Bonis (1992), Bonis et al. (2019), de Bonis et al. (2019).
