Taxonomy
Cariacus laevicornis was named by Cope (1896) [NOT original combination]. It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Port Kennedy Cave, which is in an Irvingtonian cave horizon in Pennsylvania.
It was recombined as Dama laevicornis by Hay (1902); it was recombined as Odocoileus laevicornis by Brown (1908), Gidley and Gazin (1938).
