Taxonomy
Psammechinus floralanus was named by Cooke (1941). Its type specimen is USNM 498891 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Florida Lime Products quarry, which is in an Oligocene marine limestone in the Suwanee Formation of Alabama.
