Taxonomy
Meryceros minor was named by Frick (1937). Its type locality is Horse and Mastodon Quarry, which is in a Barstovian terrestrial horizon in the Pawnee Creek Formation of Colorado.
It was recombined as Submeryceros minor by Voorhies (1990); it was recombined as Merycodus minor by Beatty and Martin (2009).
