Barsboldia was named by Maryanska and Osmólska (1981). It is not extant. Its type is Barsboldia sicinskii.
It was considered a nomen dubium by Norman and Sues (2000).
It was assigned to Hadrosauridae by Carroll (1988); to Lambeosaurinae by Maryanska and Osmólska (1981), Kielan-Jaworowska (1984), Powell (1987), Weishampel and Horner (1990), Chapman and Brett-Surman (1990), Tsogtbaatar (1997), Barsbold (1997), Horner et al. (2004), Lund and Gates (2006); and to Saurolophinae by Prieto-Márquez (2010), Prieto-Márquez (2011).
