Taxonomy
Cancellaria sanjosei was named by Anderson and Martin (1914). Its type specimen is CAS 207 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is CAS loc. 126, which is in a Miocene marine horizon in the Temblor Formation of California.

It was recombined as Cancellaria (Barkeria) sanjosei by Addicott (1970).
