Crypta rostralis was named by Conrad (1865). Its type specimen is USNM 110447 and is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Crepidula (Crepidula) rostralis by Etherington (1931); it was synonymized subjectively with Crepidula praerupta by Moore (1963); it was recombined as Crepidula rostralis by Addicott (1970).
