Miobalaenoptera numataensis
Taxonomy
Miobalaenoptera numataensis was named by Tanaka and Watanabe (2019). Its type specimen is NFL 18, a partial skull (frontals, squamosals, pari- etals, vomer, pterygoid, basisphenoid, basioccipital, exoccipitals, right periotic and presternum), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Ishikari-Numata Station, east, which is in a Messinian marine horizon in the Horokaoshirarika Formation of Japan. It is the type species of Miobalaenoptera.
