Taxonomy
Dibothrosuchus was named by Simmons (1965). Its type is Dibothrosuchus elaphros. It was considered monophyletic by Nesbitt (2011).
It was assigned to Ornithosuchidae by Simmons (1965); to Sphenosuchidae by Carroll (1988), Wu and Chatterjee (1993); to Sphenosuchia by Luo and Wu (1994); to Crocodilomorphi by Clark et al. (2004), Fiorelli and Calvo (2008), Nesbitt (2011); and to Crocodylomorpha by Irmis et al. (2013), Ruebenstahl et al. (2022).
