Volutoderma jacksonensis was named by Anderson (1958). Its type specimen is CASG 445.16 and is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Drilluta jacksonensis by Saul and Popenoe (1993).

Popenoe 1993A large Drilluta with a weakly developed sub- sutural collar, moderately strong shoulder, elongate body whorl, 13 to 18 wide-spaced strong, sigmoidal collabral ribs, and faint spiral sculpture on base of body whorl and siphonal neck. Shoulder at about mid whorl height on spire.
