Fasolasuchus was named by Bonaparte (1981). Its type is Fasolasuchus tenax. It was considered monophyletic by Nesbitt (2011).
It was assigned to Rauisuchidae by Bonaparte (1981), Carroll (1988), Parrish (1993), Long and Murry (1995); and to Loricata by Nesbitt (2011).
