Pareiasaurus whaitsi was named by Broom (1914). Its type specimen is AMNH 5567, a skull, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Bradysuchus whaitsi by Haughton and Boonstra (1929); it was recombined as Bradysaurus whaitsi by Boonstra (1935); it was considered a nomen dubium by Lee (1997).
