Taxonomy
Canis megamastoides was named by Pomel (1842). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Perrier-Etouaires, which is in the MN 16 of horizon France.
It was synonymized subjectively with Canis mitzopouli by Sickenberg (1968); it was recombined as Nyctereutes megamastoides by Viret et al. (1954), Kurten (1968), Monguillon et al. (2004), Wang et al. (2008), Koufos (2022).
