Chalcosaurus was named by Meyer (1866). It is not extant. Its type is Chalcosaurus rossicus.
It was assigned to Labyrinthodontia by Meyer (1866); and to Lanthanosuchidae by Carroll (1988), Ivakhnenko (2008).
